　　recently, students may obtain their diplomas through two main aspects: long distance education online and face-to-face teaching in the class. some colleges believe the internet will replace the role of teachers sooner or later. however, compared with professors, the internet cannot communicate with students sufficiently.

　　the benefits of online education are obvious. first, due to the imbalance of educational resources, many students in undeveloped areas cannot enjoy high-level teaching like people in big cities. thanks to the internet, it shortens the distance between schools and students, which saves people much valuable time and it also breaks the limitation of zone or area. wherever the internet comes, there will be possibility to establish some classes timely fast. second, the internet also enables students to search the useful information online with efficiency. in other words, if they find some questions in a certain subject, they may not ask their teachers, instead, they could cultivate self-learning through learning online themselves. compared with teachers at school, the new tech like cell phone and the internet will supply more information and knowledge to students who want to widen their horizon.

　　however, the negatives of the internet cannot be neglected. for one thing, the communication between student and teachers is not so efficient that young people cannot get helpful advice from their tutors timely. once students encounter some problems of their learning, they are eager to get the solution immediately. however, there is no help around them, so after meeting with their tutors, they may already forget what they are confused with. for another thing, it is hard for the university to ensure the quality of education through the internet, let alone giving them a qualification after graduation. besides, it is impossible for teachers to control the whole learning schedule without meeting students personally, which may enhance their mutual understanding. more important, for some students who lack self-discipline should be supervised by their tutors prudently, in order to make their pay full attention to their schedule.
