financial coverage by the government, complete or partial, on children education strikes readers as a sound argument: under-privileged families are helped, education is generally promoted, and better prospects of the country are likely ensured. however, this essay seeks dialectical rationale.
as a direct consequence of educating children at the government’s expense, tax will be raised. considering that a country has limited financial resources for any given period, money will have to be raised, and taxation will be the sharpest tool in the box. with higher taxes imposed, the public will likely hold a grudge against the government despite governmental investment in children education, which is directly in conflict with immediate life comforts.
moreover, financial support from the government discourages education in general and hence children education. with governmental funding guaranteed, education facilities and educator alike would lose their incentives of bettering education and attracting students. moreover, with the void of efficient fund management policies and enforcement, educating bodies would fight over easy money, and corruption might be imminent.
finally yet importantly, waste of resources might happen. when (semi-)free education is within reach, the public might give a try to all extra-curriculum activities and other training courses that might or not remotely help their children. regular school syllabi might be conveniently overlooked and wasted. even if regular schooling is paid attention to, reckless education decisions/choices made for children might not be out of interest or talents of the learners.
however, the situation can be reversed if a country is affluent enough, investment management policies are in place, and if the public take education opportunities with discretion. in sum, better children education yields strategic advantages, which will outweigh the disadvantages when it is carried out with thoughtfulness and discreetness.
